The Paris Olympics will undoubtedly dominate much of the media coverage in the coming days. As the world's most significant sporting event, the Olympic Games capture the attention of various audiences, not just those who typically follow sports daily.
It's no different for children and adolescents. In Latin America, a continent with a natural passion for certain sports, especially soccer, interest in the Olympics is high. A survey conducted by Kids Corp showed that 70% of the under-18 audience is excited about the start of the Games.
The survey was conducted through an online questionnaire, with 1,634 respondents from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Mexico.
For these children and adolescents, the most popular sport is soccer, mentioned as the top choice by 42%. Gymnastics and swimming come in second, with 18% each. Volleyball follows with 17% of mentions, and basketball with 16%.
Where will children and adolescents watch the Olympics?
Kids Corp also asked children and adolescents about the platform they will use to watch the Olympic Games. Broadcast TV channels were the preferred choice, cited by 42% of respondents.
YouTube came in second, with 35% of mentions, followed by paid TV channels with 34%.
Social media platforms were also widely mentioned by children and teens when it comes to getting information and accessing Olympic content. For 18% of them, the preferred network for this type of content will be TikTok; 16% mentioned Instagram; 14% prefer Facebook, while Twitch got 4%, and X (formerly Twitter) 3%.
