Although not as prominent as Mother’s Day or Christmas, the occasion significantly draws the attention and spending of consumers. This year’s proprietary survey by Globo, with 1,000 respondents from across the country, found that 68% see the date as a time to show affection, love, and strengthen relationships. The National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services, and Tourism (CNC) reports that retail sales during this period are projected to reach R$ 7.8 billion, a 6.8% increase compared to last year.
According to Globo’s study, the majority of the population (61%) plans to spend between R$ 51 and R$ 200 on this year’s gift. Leading the ranking of gifts that children intend to give their fathers are perfumes, with 24% of mentions, followed by clothing (17%), shoes (14%), and a special meal (10%). Most of the purchases (68%) are expected to be made in physical stores, with 53% of these occurring during the week of Father’s Day.
Considering that the relationship between parents and children goes far beyond occasional celebrations, the martech company Kids Corp conducted a nationwide online survey to identify which activities and consumption habits parents and children share. According to the study, of the 5,135 participants, 76% said they enjoy spending time with their children. Among the favorite activities they share with their kids are watching streaming platforms (58%), going to parks or plazas (44%), playing video games (34%), engaging in sports or physical activities (32%), going to restaurants (31%), and cooking (24%).
When it comes to technology, parents consider it a support for education (39%), believe it helps them get closer to their children (25%), while 53% encourage their children to participate in extracurricular activities. On the other hand, parents recognize the strong influence their children have on purchasing decisions, with 65% indicating that their children’s opinions are decisive in discussions about which clothes and shoes they (the children) can buy—a figure that stands at 58% for toys and 45% for apps and video games.
