What are children's dreams and concerns?

World Children's Day is celebrated every November 20th as a reminder of the importance of working together to ensure the well-being of all the boys and girls in the world. On this day, the spotlight is on children who have the opportunity to express their dreams, thoughts, reflections, and wishes.

According to data collected by Askids, the data & insights platform for the U18 segment, it reveals that boys and girls have big dreams and expectations but also face genuine concerns.

What do they want to be when they grow up?

9% of children aged 3 to 5 dream of becoming firefighters, 8% aspire to be police officers, and 7% want to be football players. In the case of girls of the same age, 16% aspire to become psychologists, 11% dancers, and 6% singers.

On the other hand, for girls aged 6 to 12, psychology remains the favorite profession for 14%, 13% dream of being veterinarians, and 5% aspire to be teachers. Among boys, the preferences for professions are quite different: 12% want to be football players, 6% YouTubers, and 5% police officers.

Teenagers aged 13 to 18 also have their own dreams. 13% of young people dream of being engineers, 8% want to be video game developers, and 6% aim to be athletes. As for girls, 9% want to be psychologists, 7% aspire to be lawyers, and 6% dream of being veterinarians.

However, dreams are not the only thing on the minds of boys and girls.

What problems worry the little ones?

37% of children between 11 and 18 years old in Latin America worry about cruelty to animals, 33% about poverty, 31% about health, 28% about climate change, and 27% about bullying. Children dream of a world where everyone respects animals, where everyone enjoys good health, and where people respect each other.

On World Children's Day, as adults, we have a fundamental duty: to actively listen to boys and girls and help them build the world they dream of, a world where children's rights become a reality. This includes their right to participate, promoting respect for other perspectives, and providing safe environments for their development, including navigating the Internet.

Currently, one-third of Internet users are under 18, and at Kids Corp, we are committed to making the Internet a safe and enriching place for the U18 segment.

We are convinced that through education, awareness, and commitment, we can contribute to a world where the dreams of boys and girls come true, and their concerns are eased.

On this World Children's Day, let's reflect on how we can work together to create a better world for our boys and girls, where they have the opportunity to grow in a safe, healthy, and respectful environment. Together, we can make their dreams come true.
