Latin America: 54% of children's audiences consume VOD

A new study conducted by Kids Corp, with children and young people aged 3 to 18 from different regions of Latin America, showed that digital video consumption by this audience is much higher than that of traditional media. According to the survey, which received responses from 4,807 people, the consumption of entertainment content through digital platforms is the main activity of 54% of children and young people. Traditional media was cited as the main content consumption platform by 32% of this group.

As for the time spent on these activities, however, the research shows a virtual tie: VOD consumption takes up 85 minutes of daily time while traditional media consumption averages 81 minutes.

Kids Corp also mapped the VOD services and linear channels most watched by children and teens. In terms of VOD, Netflix and YouTube lead, with differences in consumption across age groups; while the list of linear channels most watched by this audience includes Cartoon Network, Discovery Kids and Disney Channel.

The research also sought to assess the frequency of consumption between these platforms, discovering that children and young people, regardless of the day, consume more television and video on demand in the afternoon. On weekends, however, the frequency increases, at any time of the day.

During the day, considering the morning and afternoon periods, children are the largest television audience. YouTube is highly consumed by teenagers, with greater use in the afternoon.

The research also highlighted how video games have a strong presence in the daily consumption of content and entertainment by children and young people. Of every 10 children and young people who participated in the research, at least 6 play some type of game.

The types of video games preferred also vary by age group. Children aged 3 to 5 are the most likely to enjoy platform games and content creation; children aged 6 to 12 prefer open world, strategy or battle royale games; while teenagers aged 13 to 18 prefer action, sports and battle royale games.
